Open Call – Writing workshop tests during residency at BEK_small

Join us for a one-weekend speculative writing workshop at Harpefoss Kunstarena!

The workshop is part of the exhibition The Host Rock and The Deep Time by Ana Brotas,

Karina Sletten, and Viviana Cárdenas.

We invite 8 participants for an artist-led workshop about speculative writing on topics of

mining, ecology, timescales, more-than-human perspectives, history, and fiction. The

workshop will focus on how practices of extraction have infiltrated not only landscapes but

also language, time, movement, and sound.

This workshop isn’t just about writing, it’s also about envisioning together new geographies,

new futures, and new stories. To speculate is an important way of imagining alternative

scenarios and questioning our own perspectives. Through various creative exercises, we will

collectively discuss, reflect on, and share our different understandings of the ways in which

human intervention has shaped the world around us.

After the workshop, the texts and works created during our time together will be combined

into a collective fanzine.

We provide:

Accommodation (2 nights at a nearby location)

Travel (public transport will be covered to and from the venue)

Food (all meals will be provided during the workshop)

Materials (we will supply all necessary materials for the creative activities)

Workshop details:

Date: 10 – 12 November

Location: Harpefoss Kunstarena, Gålåvegen 58, 2647 Sør-fron

Who can participate:

Anyone with an interest in these topics is welcome to join. No prior experience in writing or

art is required – an open mind and willingness to experiment are all you need!
