About the project

KARI is the title of a performance by and with choreographer/dancer Ingeleiv Berstad in conjunction with the installation “Kjerringstemming” by Mor Efrony.

KARI wants to take the audience into a state that sharpens the senses. Through her finely tuned noisy bodily practice, Berstad will activate listening and vibrations through her own body and voice. In the search for bodily connections to the place, the strings, the bridges, the river and the trees, she will draw inspiration from female role models from her own life, from history and mythology – all of whom become part of the body KARI. With great care, she will work with the leaks between the body and the surroundings – energetically, sonically and movingly.

about the artist

Ingeleiv Berstad uses dance as a reflexive practice to create connections in and to the world – people, places, nature, things and ideas. She works in the independent performing arts field based in Oslo. Since 2010, she has primarily created her own projects in collaboration with other artists. Her performances have toured in a number of European countries, at festivals such as ImpulsTanz, ICE HOT, Motel Mozaique, Side Step and has been part of the Aerowae network. She has created two commissioned works for Carte Blanche – Norway’s national company for contemporary dance in pairs with long-term collaborator Kristin Helgebostad.

In 2024, she won the Hedda Prize for the performance KNØ by Berstad/Holden/Becker, which was also nominated for the critics’ prize that same year.

As a musician, she is part of the bands Lady Hardanger and Frøkedal & Familien.

Berstad holds a master’s degree in choreography from the Norwegian Academy of the Arts and a BA in modern dance from Khio with an Erasmus semester at Theaterschool/School of New Dance Development in Amsterdam
